Paul Hackett: Acting Director
Paul has overall responsibility for the Institute's programme of research and events.

Paul Hunter: Administrator
Paul’s main areas of responsibility are membership and finance. He also assists with the organisation of events and deals with general enquires.

Nicola Langley-Essen: Events Manager
Nikki is responsible for the organisation and running of the Smith Institute’s programme of events.

Sam Brown: Assistant
Sam's main area of responsibility is assisting with the organisation of the programme of seminars and events.

Graham Hitchen: Research Fellow
Graham's main areas of responsibility are for developing the Smith Institute’s programme of research and education on social and economic policy; and editing the Smith Institute’s seminar reports.

Nick Johnson: Research Fellow
Nick's main areas of responsibility are for developing the Smith Institute’s programme of research and education on social and economic policy; and editing the Smith Institute’s seminar reports.

Senior Research Fellows

The Institute has from time to time appointed senior research fellows who offer advice and guidance on our programme of research; advised us about our publication list; and lead some of our seminars and events.

Current Fellows:

Dr Irwin M. Stelzer is a Senior Fellow and Director of Economic Studies at the Hudson Institute. He is a regular economic and political columnist for The Sunday Times and a member of the board of the Regulatory Policy Institute. Dr Stelzer acts as a consultant to a number of UK and US companies looking at market strategy, pricing and antitrust issues, and regulatory matters.

Former Fellows:

Ed Balls was a Senior Research Fellow at the Smith Institute in the period July 2004 – April 2005. During his time with the Smith Institute Ed Balls contributed to many aspects of the Institute’s programme concentrating mainly on regulation and competitiveness; regional economic policies; and localism. In addition he chaired roundtable meetings on financial exclusion and pensions; and gave a speech in Northern Ireland on macro-economic issues.
