This conference, organised in conjunction with Bank of America and held in Canary Wharf, was opened by the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown who spoke of the economic and social benefits of spreading links between business and the community. Representatives from a local school, described the practical benefits for them of partnership with local businesses in terms of educational achievement, before the Government Minister for Corporate Social Responsibility, Stephen Timms MP, presented the Governments approach to CSR. The conference was closed by the Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Eddie George, who argued that corporate social responsibility was a potential ‘win-win’ for both businesses and the community.
